Craftsman style home in Portland gets transformed to connect with nature

was responsible for transforming this beautiful Craftsman style home into an open floor plan, located in Portland, Oregon. A sunroom was added onto the kitchen, helping to create a strong connection between the interior and the beautiful large garden area. The bi-fold doors open to a covered porch to expand the living area. The room dimensions are 14′-2″W x 12′-10″ D.

The bi-fold doors to the back and the French doors to the side give this newly added sun room the feeling of being an outdoor space. The wrap around porch makes this a perfect area for entertaining. The bi-fold doors are made by Loewen Window and Door Company.

The new sun room is open to the newly remodeled kitchen which makes a perfect space for casual entertaining. The chairs are IKEA pieces with custom slip covers. The bar stools were sourced from Restoration Hardware. The floors are oak and were stained with a custom formula to match the existing floors in the rest of the house. The walls are painted in Stonewall 8783M— Miller Paint.

The kitchen and sun room open out to the lovely garden space making it a perfect place for summer entertaining. The kitchen sink and island faucets are made by KWC, model “Systema.” The bar faucet is made by Newport Brass and is the 920 Series. The countertops are honed absolute black granite, while the backsplash is Carrara marble.

The newly remodeled kitchen is both beautiful and functional with large appliances and open shelves to display the owner’s pottery collection. The space is expanded by a renovated butler’s pantry through the cased opening. The light is a vintage piece from an old train, Restoration Hardware has something similar. The space is 14′-2″ x 14′-9″, while the island dimensions are 4′ x 4′-6″. The floors are a red oak with a custom stain.
