Charming beach cottage offers breezy living spaces in the Hamptons

This charming beach cottage of just 1,800 square feet was designed by New York-based  as her personal family retreat, located in East Hampton Village, New York. The three bedroom, two bathroom home was originally a dingy shingle-clad home built in the early 1900s. It was not exactly what the designer and her family had in mind when they went house hunting in the Hamptons, but they fell in love with the beautiful gardens. The designer got to work on the renovations, taking six weeks to re-create their dream house. The goal was to make the home feel more spacious without creating an addition.

There was originally an attic in the home, which was removed, allowing for higher, exposed vaulted ceilings. The ceiling joists were also left exposed in the main living areas of the first floor living and dining rooms to allow for increased ceiling height. Natural light was increased by adding a more expansive passageway between the living and dining areas. Luminosity was also increased with a fresh coat of crisp white paint throughout the interiors. In contrast, the flooring in the main living spaces, with the exception of the kitchen, were coated with a serene shade of green.

The Look: Contemporary beach vibe. Textures, natural materials and a hint of color makes this breezy beach pad chic and stylish.

What We Love: The soft grayish-green of the floorings pairs beautifully with the soft, neutral fabrics of the furnishings and beachy decor. This charming beach cottage is the perfect oasis from the hustle and bustle of New York City, a dream home for anyone to feel right at home in. What do you think, are you a fan of beach houses? A half wall of chalkboard paint above the beadboard allows the perfect spot for the homeowners to write grocery lists and other reminders.
