Tropical dream house in Maui opens to fresh sea breezes

A beautifully designed tropical home on the Hawaiian island of Maui draws in fresh sea breezes to cool the interior and exterior living spaces, designed by New Zealand-based . The home was designed to adapt to its tropical environment, instead of using air conditioning to keep spaces cool, the architects keep the spaces naturally ventilated. With open and spacious living spaces that flows harmoniously from one to the next, this makes for a perfect vacation retreat. There is a seamless connection between indoors and out, extending interior living areas to the outdoors, perfect for entertaining with ease. Large roof overhangs were meticulously designed to protect the interiors from the elements, while water features helps to compliment the cooling effect the architects were trying to achieve in their design.

The residence is composed of five individual structures, connected by broad covered ways and encircles an open courtyard. The living pavilions are open and exposed to not only encourage airflow, but the offers its inhabitants sweeping vistas from the courtyard to the sea. The house embraces one of the principle design philosophies of the architects, which underscores the importance of incorporating environmental sustainability into the design.
