Dreamy rustic-contemporary retreat on Whitefish Lake

A rustic-contemporary summer retreat offers lakeside living and entertaining in style, designed by one of our personal favorites, , nestled on Whitefish Lake in Montana. Comprised of 7,000 square feet of living space, the construction of the exterior facade is a mix of conventional stick-frame and structural time frame. The posts, beams and trusses on the outside of the home are a part of the structural support. There is plenty of timber on the interior that is non-structural, applied just for aesthetics, but appears as structural. The living and dining room area is the perfect example of this, with its soaring cathedral ceilings and exposed timber trusses. The appearance feels like a lodge, yet has a comfortable scale that is very warm and welcoming. The way that the trusses carried through the spaces helped to determine the placement of windows, light fixtures and even the interior decor scheme. Reclaimed fir and stone was used throughout the residence, giving it an overall edgy style with a rustic feel.

was responsible for the interior decor of the home, infusing a contemporary style in the finishes and furnishings. The designers selected wall coverings, whimsical fabrics and handcrafted light fixtures to help create interiors that give a lasting impression. The home has been designed to cater to family living, from a piano nook to the great room and home theater, there are plenty of cozy spaces to enjoy family entertainment.

A double-sided fireplace in the kitchen can be enjoyed by anyone seated in the dining room as well as at the bar. The lake view through expansive windows is what really steals the show.

The master bedroom retreat was one of the more memorably designed spaces in this spacious home, with walls lined completely in birch bark. It makes you feel like you are in a tree fort, where the landscape architects added to this sensation by planting more birch and aspen in visual view of this space.

A spacious outdoor entertainment pavilion was designed to accommodate several outdoor activities, such as relaxing around a fire pit, taking a dip in the hot tub or grilling in the outdoor kitchen. There is plenty of outdoor seating to relax in the fresh, open air and enjoy the warm summer season. The outdoor space above is an extension of the kitchen, designed to entertain the homeowners guests.
