A luminous four-story brownstone in Boston’s South End

We just stumbled upon the talented work of contemporary interior designer, , whose work showcases this striking townhouse in Boston’s South End. It has been quite sometime since we have featured a townhouse, so we are excited to give you a tour of this one. Design Principal, Kristine Irving of Koo de Kir has been featured in Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston Home 2016”, and for good reason.

She relies less on trends and more on her creativity to mix texture and color into a cheerful aesthetic. The magazine stated that the designer, “draws her inspiration from the unlikeliest of sources: early Renaissance paintings, a pint of beer, classic film.” An interesting way to approach design, this eclectic home reflects her honed skills. Consisting of 3,200 square feet of living space, this brownstone was renovated to pure perfection. Continue on for the tour…

The architectural designer was involved with this project in the early stages of design. Their role was to oversee the project from start to finish, “to maintain the design integrity and creative direction from the initial space partitioning, through construction and on to installation,” states the designer. This was a full custom interior project, a full gut renovation of the four-story townhouse.

The scope of the project involved custom flooring, tile, stained glass and wallpaper—to a massive structural window and an incredible custom designed kitchen. Others who worked on this project includes Embarc Studio, who was charged with the architecture and building envelope. General Contracting was by Kennedy Design Build. Koo de Kir was responsible for the interior architecture, design and creative direction.

What We Love: This four-story townhouse has been historically preserved to retain its natural beauty, yet infuse it with personality. Stylish features can be seen throughout this home, from the eye-popping flooring in the kitchen to the wall coverings in the foyer and bedrooms. Overall, the light-filled interiors makes for a fantastic family home.
