Modern-rustic mountain retreat showcases sweeping views of Lake Tahoe

This modern-rustic mountain retreat was designed by  in collaboration with , located in Washoe County, Nevada on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The residence is set on a forested slope, maximizing its views of Lake Tahoe. The original design of this home did very little to take advantage of its site or incredible views. Working with the homeowner, the project team transformed this space from “simplistic and predictable to sophisticated and elegant.”

was responsible for stripping the interiors down to the studs, while integrating expansive windows to maximize views. The mechanical system was replaced with a modern, high-efficiency radiant boiler. They also installed a a large open flame gas fireplace, and re-designed the lighting for both efficiency and improved ambience, while creating custom concealed fixtures to fit within the trusses.

Additional custom features integrated into this renovation project includes: shou-sugi-ban entry door, built-in cabinetry, floating shelves, stair rail, and ancient local juniper slab vanity. Engineered hard wood floors were installed above radiant floors. Custom tile features can be seen throughout. Overall, what originally felt closed off and cramped is now open and spacious, bright and airy. A thoughtfully design floor plan that maximizes site lines and was sited to take advantage of its beautiful surroundings.

A spacious open plan living room beckons guests to sit down and get comfortable. The spa-like atmosphere showcases comfortable sectionals arranged around a coffee table, perfect for entertaining. Drawing in natural light into this residence played an essential role as the architects captured it through floor to ceiling windows, bringing the outdoors in.

What We Love: This rustic mountain retreat showcases custom details and thoughtful design features throughout this spectacular remodel. Breathtaking views of the surrounding wooded landscape and Lake Tahoe in the distance makes this home a spectacular getaway. Rough hewn beams left exposed with high ceilings makes this retreat feel like a true mountain home.
