Dreamy rustic-modern lake house with sweeping vistas of Lake Joseph

This rustic-modern lake house was designed by , located along Lake Joseph, in Seguin Township, Ontario, Canada. This idyllic lakeside community is dotted by cottages, the region is known as Ontario’s “cottage country”. This dreamy getaway was created for the designer’s family and friends to enjoy as a year-round vacation home. The style of this home is luxurious minimalism mixed with woodsy touches and layered with exquisite finds from her travels abroad.

The designer wanted the home to be deeply connected to nature. In so doing, the home was oriented on the site so that every room would have a view towards the lake. During the magnificent summer months, there is a seamless connection between indoors and out. Where fresh breezes off the lake drifts through the interiors and fresh scent of pine fragrances the air and you can hear the joyous sounds of swimmers splashing through the water outside.

Heavy reclaimed ceiling beams and wide-plank pine wallboards and flooring helps to add warmth and comfort to expansive rooms. The designer looked to modern Belgian design for her inspiration, looking for a more modest yet luxury-minimalism. A neutral and monochromatic color palette graces the interiors, so as not to detract from the natural beauty that surrounds this home.

Fact: The interior walls throughout the home are painted in Cloud White by Benjamin Moore.

Above: In the living room, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace is clad with locally quarried granite, while a wall of windows spans 20 feet in height. The space has a tree-house like feel, surrounded by gently swaying pines. Beyond is the dining room featuring a dining table sourced from Restoration Hardware, accented by wicker armchairs shipped home from a trip to Provence.

Interesting Fact: The designer requested that the lichen on the granite used for the fireplace be left intact. She thought it would add character to the space.

Above: The breakfast nook features awning windows that can be open to let in fresh breezes off the lake. The spacious U-shaped banquette allows plenty of room for the family of six to sit, while still have room for guests.

Above: A sitting room allows both the middle and bottom windows to to lower into the wall, which transforms this space into a screened-in porch.

Above: In the boy’s bedroom, the designer decorated with vintage cane beds that were sourced online. They have an aesthetic feel of part sleep-away camp, part British Colonial.

What We Love: This idyllic rustic-modern lake house offers plenty of charm from the stylish furnishings to the reclaimed barnwood. We are loving the incorporation of travel finds throughout the home, adding plenty of character throughout. The expansive windows frames those stunning lake views and we can just imagine sitting on that outdoor deck watching those peaceful Canadian sunsets! What a dreamy home… Would you agree? Readers would this be your idea of the perfect cottage retreat?

I love this place with the huge fireplace, the simple sophisticated but clean looking décor, the wood elements, the many windows, the feeling of being connected to nature, the water views, all the couches with pillows, the many places to catch a nap, read a book or catch up on conversation. What I see as a drawback however, is the cream couches which equals kids mess or food and drink stains. We all drop at some time unless this is a magic fabric. Vacation houses are wonderful especially when you don’t have to worry about human foils.
