Beautiful fishing cabin offers sweeping views of the Teton Mountain Range

This contemporary fishing cabin was designed by , located on a beautiful 10-acre site in Jackson, Wyoming. The property features plenty of privacy with spectacular views of the Teton Mountain Range, along with close proximity to a fishing creek and access to the wildlife habitat that the creek supports.

There was already an existing home on the site, which the homeowners had considered tearing down, however the structure resided within a stream setback. If they began a new project, this would have required the house to be drawn away from the water’s edge, which would have conflicted with the homeowner’s vision.

Encompassing 5,600 square feet of living space, the existing home was a “Western Cliché”, featuring shellacked logs, shiny river rock and a hodgepodge of various buildings placed without regard to the site. The architects began the design effort by reorganizing the forms to create a more unified composition of buildings. The separate cabins are connected by a long, low, Western-inspired porch.

Large window openings were cut into the buildings to connect interior spaces with the outdoors. While the homeowners still wished to preserve the log structures, they also requested that the new design of their home be a contemporary interpretation of a western cabin. To achieve this, a black palette was selected for the exterior facade: black stained logs, black steel details and black painted wood.
