Idyllic rustic mountain retreat showcases views of the Teton Mountains

was responsible for the design of this contemporary rustic mountain retreat that resides in the beautiful countryside of JacksonWyoming. With picturesque views of the Teton mountain range in the distance, this home is nestled on an idyllic 20-acre property with rushing river running parallel to the site. Commissioned as a three-generation family retreat, the key to comfort was to mix traditional Western architecture with all the comforts of the homeowner’s native South.

The design of this rustic mountain retreat needed to meet the lifestyle needs of the owners, their children and grandchildren, all vacationing together in 8,000 square feet of living space. The architects designed rooflines at varying heights and angled walls to break up the spacious home into what appears to be several small structures, creating the feeling of a compound.

The architects worked closely with the client’s longtime interior designer Janet Baker. Her goal was to soften the hard edges of stone, timber and steel with a light Southern flair. In doing so, the designer selected light and airy fabrics and furnishings that carry a style of traditional elegance. The overall visual effect is a home that doesn’t feel as much rustic as it is warm, clean and bright infused with plenty of comfortable areas for relaxing.

What We Love: This rustic mountain retreat celebrates the glorious setting that surrounds it, with a traditional Western vernacular while infusing elegant comforts into the interiors. This home is the perfect example of finding a middle ground between rusticity and refinement. We are especially loving the idyllic river that runs through the property! … Readers, what are your thoughts, do you find the style of this home to be warm and inviting?
