Exquisite seaside retreat nestled on Kiawah Island, South Carolina

This stunning beach house was designed by  and built by , located on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. This oceanside retreat was created for a family of five, offering 7,614 square feet of living space, with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. On the interior, a sense of calmness has been reinforced through the selection of color, texture and materials.

The main living spaces offer elegant spaces for entertaining, while separate family and guest areas provide privacy, with plenty of opportunity to rest and recharge. Despite the home being set on a compact property densely populated with maritime oaks, the main living areas and bedrooms all boast breathtaking ocean views. The overall size of this unique and timeless beach house is downplayed by revealing the home in layers, through subtle, yet complex solutions.

What We Love: This seaside retreat offers exquisite details throughout, from the furnishings and fixtures to the millwork, moldings, built-ins and curved walls. Breathtaking ocean views are offered throughout this home, making it a peaceful and relaxing place to take a vacation. We are just loving the nautilus shell-inspired staircase design! …Readers, what do you think of the design of this home, would this be your ideal vacation retreat? Above: On the covered porch, comfortable furnishings are grouped around a stone clad gas fireplace. The decking is a Brazilian Ipe. The porch dimensions are 21′-0″x20′-3″. This room has its own climate control that is separate from the main house.

Above: The exquisite light fixture illuminating the staircase is the Savoy House Penrose Bronze 12-Light Foyer Pendant. For the staircase runner, the Veracruz Palomino Sisal by DMI has a similar look.

Above: This luminous staircase is reminiscent of a nautilus shell, which gently turns as it rises to the second level.

Above: Upstairs an opulent master bedroom with cathedral ceiling and a private balcony showcases breathtaking ocean views. Other highlights includes decorator oval windows and French white oak flooring, which are covered by a large area rug at the homeowner’s request (they wished to have extra softness underfoot). Shiplap walls and exquisite moldings and built-ins provide the finishing touches.

Above: Two spacious walk-in closets connect to the bedroom with this expansive marble-appointed en suite, with separate dressing area.

Above: In the hallway, the wall treatment is shiplap.

Above: In the children’s bedroom, the beds were custom designed by the architects and fabricated by a local millwork shop. The walls are painted in Maritime White 963 | Benjamin Moore.

Very nice neo-shingle style house. It’s well done, but looks like it should be on the east coast; not Hawaii..

This is on the east coast (Kiawah Island, South Carolina) Taper
